What is 128-Slice Computed Tomography?

A 128-slice CT scan is one of the most reliable and safe tests for analyzing the human body. It uses X- rays to produce axial images of great detail and precision in various anatomical areas. The exam is especially relevant for medical specialties such as Cardiology, Neuroradiology or Vascular Radiology.

How it works

128-Slice Computed Tomography works similarly to a conventional CT-scan. An X-ray beam rotates around the patient, creating an X-ray image which is then digitally processed to correspond to a ‘slice’ of the body.

Capabilities and benefits

The 128-Slice Computed Tomography increases diagnostic accuracy in several areas, namely in Cardiac Imaging. The speed of the exam means it is possible to produce images of the heart at specific moments, a key feature for a correct diagnosis. Also, because of the small size of the detector, it enables dynamic angiographic and vascular studies. 128-Slice Computed Tomography can identify affected brain areas and treat cerebrovascular accidents (CVA).

In short, the 128-Slice Computed Tomography main capabilities are:

• Use of less radiation during the exam

• Scan very small structures, such as coronary arteries

• Improved image quality and diagnostic accuracy
