What is Naeotom Alpha Prime

Naeotom Alpha.Prime is a next generation Computed Tomography (CT) system that employs Photon-Counting CT (PCCT) technology.

Unlike conventional CT scanners, this technology detects and counts each X-ray photon individually, preserving more information during the exam.

This results in more detailed images and information, helping provide greater precision and confidence in the diagnosis.

How it works

During the scan, detectors rotate around the client, capturing the X-rays that travel through the body.

With Naeotom Alpha.Prime, each X-ray photon is detected individually and its energy is directly converted into electrical signals. This dataset is then processed and reconstructed, creating ultra-high definition and detailed images.

This technology allows more information to be preserved throughout the scanning process, from data acquisition to the final image, helping provide a more precise assessment.

What is the difference between photon-counting technology and conventional CT scanning?

In conventional CT scanning with energy-integrating detectors, X-rays are first converted into light by a scintillator, and only afterwards into an electrical signal, causing loss of spectral information throughout the process. With photon-counting technology, photons are directly converted into an electrical signal and can be measured individually, which enables ultra-high resolution, elimination of electronic noise and inherent spectral information. 
What is inherent spectral information and why is it important?

Photon Counting CT technology allows the energy of each X-ray photon to be measured during acquisition. This additional information provides spectral data in every scan, delivering a more detailed analysis of tissue and matter. 

Spectral information can be used to generate different types of images and aid in the differentiation of materials, adding information to the evaluation of conventional images.
