Among the procedures to be performed, the Uniportal VATS technique stands out as a revolutionary approach to video-assisted thoracic surgery. Carried out through a single 3–4 cm incision, this technique enables major anatomical resections and complex interventions while being less traumatic to the chest wall. The programme on the same day also included two surgeries: bilateral upper thoracic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis and for facial blushing.

In addition to being a less invasive procedure, Uniportal VATS offers significant benefits to patients, including less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays and faster functional recovery, as well as a superior aesthetic result.

Prof. Diego González Rivas, a pioneer of the technique, and Prof. Javier Gallego, a leading figure in its dissemination in Portugal and Spain, led the surgeries broadcast during the workshop.
The participation reinforces the commitment of Clínica Cirúrgica de Carcavelos to innovation and continuing education in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, placing Portugal at the forefront of these techniques.

On 11 April, the second part of the Bluesail Surgical Workshop continued NOVA Medical School.
