Joaquim Chaves Saúde (JCS) has, for the first time, carried out a Vacuum-Assisted Biopsy (VAB) guided by 3D contrast-enhanced mammography at its Miraflores Clinic. This advanced technique combines the functional information provided by the contrast agent with the high resolution of 3D mammography, enabling a more targeted approach to breast lesions identified in the imaging study.
The performance of this procedure represents yet another step in JCS’s commitment to technological innovation and clinical excellence, making increasingly advanced diagnostic and interventional technology available to professionals and patients.
According to the radiologist, Dr Pedro Macedo, “3D contrast-enhanced mammography provides additional information on the vascularisation of lesions, which can contribute to a more complete characterisation of certain breast abnormalities. When combined with BAV, it enables tissue sampling for histological analysis to be targeted specifically at areas of interest, which are sometimes only identified during this examination”.
This procedure is the result of the integration of technology, clinical expertise and multidisciplinary collaboration, involving the Imaging and Pathology teams, and demonstrates JCS’s ability to incorporate new solutions into its clients’ diagnostic pathways.
