What is TMS?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an advanced brain stimulation technique that utilizes magnetic pulses to stimulate brain activity in the prefrontal cortex. TMS treatment offers a solution for conditions that are not adequately addressed by conventional therapies, such as treatment-resistant depression that persists despite the use of antidepressants and psychotherapy.
How it works?
TMS treatment sessions involve placing a device with an electromagnetic coil on the patient's head, through which magnetic pulses are delivered to specific areas of the brain related to the condition being treated. These pulses help regulate brain activity, providing a non-invasive and safe approach to treating neuropsychiatric conditions. Each pulse produces a sound similar to that of a magnetic resonance imaging machine and may cause a slight sensation of pressure, so we provide earplugs to ensure patient comfort. The treatment does not require anesthesia, and patients remain awake during each session, which typically lasts about 20 minutes.
