Joaquim Chaves Saúde implements innovative tool to improve medical consultations

When we go for a consultation, it is at the computer that we most often find the doctor, who remains there while talking to the patient. It's estimated that 50 per cent of a doctor's time during a consultation is currently spent on administrative tasks.

With the aim of improving and humanising the doctor-patient relationship and our clients' experience in mind, Joaquim Chaves Saúde started a pilot project on September 2 with MEDgical, an innovative tool that allows us to automate the recording of consultations. This way, doctors can focus on their patients instead of sitting in front of a computer, taking notes and dealing with the bureaucratic work associated with the consultation.

For MEDgical to go live, all you need is a desktop microphone connected to your computer and a web page where you log in. From there, the tool starts listening to what's going on in the consultation and, at the end, it will generate the notes, which, after being placed in the clinical file, are deleted from the platform, which keeps nothing recorded.

In this first test phase, MEDgical is being used in Cardiology and General Practice consultations. Dr Daniel Ferreira, the Cardiology coordinator, was the pioneer of this project, not without first ensuring that there were no legal constraints. ‘Since then, I've used the platform with all my patients, in more than a hundred consultations, with a very high level of satisfaction from myself and the patients,’ says Dr Daniel.
With this new technology, Joaquim Chaves Saúde is reinforcing its commitment to innovation and constant improvement in the provision of healthcare, guaranteeing a more humanised and efficient experience for everyone.
