This innovative algorithm has been specially developed to help interpret brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, providing a quantitative and detailed analysis of brain structures over time.
How does the algorithm work?
AI-Rad Companion - Brain MR performs a detailed segmentation of MRI images of the brain, automatically quantifying morphological alterations and comparing the results obtained with those of similar scans of a healthy population with the same characteristics. This quantitative analysis makes it possible to gather objective information and minimise subjectivity in the interpretation of results, which until now was carried out through the experience of the clinician/doctor.
What are the benefits of diagnosis and follow-up?
• Dementias: the algorithm measures and compares changes over time, making it possible to follow the progression of brain atrophy precisely. For example, by comparing sequential examinations, as in the case of an initial diagnosis and a new assessment six months later;
• Multiple sclerosis: one of the greatest difficulties in treating multiple sclerosis is accurately assessing the progression of lesions. The algorithm therefore helps to quantify and characterise white matter lesions, enabling an objective analysis that supports therapeutic decisions.
What are the advantages of this algorithm?
With new technological developments in the field of MRI, this technique has become more accessible and more complete, requiring more and more time to interpret its data. In this sense, AI is helping to optimise this process, increasing accuracy and reducing the time needed to interpret complex exams, while at the same time reducing the risk of human error.
This technology aims to support healthcare professionals by offering them an effective tool for faster and more assertive diagnoses.
Through an intuitive interface, AI-Rad Companion - Brain MR enables an efficient workflow by automatically segmenting, highlighting and reporting changes detected in MRI images.
In what cases is it useful?
Among the pathologies that benefit from this algorithm are:
• Alzheimer's disease;
• Frontotemporal Dementia;
• Mild Cognitive Impairment;
• Multiple Sclerosis.
This investment in AI is yet another reflection of Joaquim Chaves Saúde's ongoing commitment to state-of-the-art technologies, with the aim of improving the service provided to all clients and optimising the response capacity of healthcare professionals.
AI-Rad Companion - Brain MR is now available in our Miraflores, Cascais and Sintra clinics, where we have MRI equipment.
